Privacy Policy

Cinecast ("the App", "we", "us") is a desktop screen recording and video editing application. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored.

    Short version: Cinecast does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data. All data stays on your device. The only external service the App communicates with is YouTube (Google), and only when you explicitly initiate an upload.
  

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Cinecast does not:

Collect analytics or usage telemetry
Track your activity or behavior
Send recordings, screenshots, or video files to any server
Store any personal information on external servers
Use cookies or third-party tracking

2. Local Data Storage

The App stores the following data locally on your device only:

Screen recordings and exported video files (in ~/.cinecast/)
App settings and preferences (via Electron Store in your OS user data directory)
YouTube OAuth tokens (access token and refresh token) — stored locally and never transmitted to Cinecast servers
Google OAuth Client ID and Client Secret you provide — stored locally only

3. YouTube API Services

Cinecast integrates with the YouTube API Services to allow you to upload videos directly to your YouTube channel. When you use this feature:

You authorize the App via Google's OAuth 2.0 flow in your browser
The App receives an access token and refresh token from Google, stored locally on your device
Video files are uploaded directly from your device to YouTube's servers — they do not pass through any Cinecast server
The App requests the minimum OAuth scopes necessary: youtube.upload and youtube.readonly
You can revoke access at any time via Google Account Permissions or by clicking Disconnect in the App

By using the YouTube integration, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and acknowledge that Google's Privacy Policy applies to data processed by Google's services.

Cinecast's use of YouTube API Services complies with the YouTube API Services Terms of Service.

4. Permissions

The App may request the following system permissions:

Screen capture — to record your screen
Microphone — to record audio narration (optional)
Camera — for webcam overlay during recording (optional)
File system — to read/write recording and export files in locations you choose
Network — solely for YouTube uploads when you initiate them

5. Third-Party Services

The only third-party service Cinecast communicates with is YouTube (Google). No other external services, analytics platforms, crash reporters, or advertising networks are used.

6. Children's Privacy

Cinecast is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above and post the revised policy at this URL. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
